Available free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, QuranMV combines the original Arabic text of the Qur’an with its Dhivehi translation in a clean and distraction-free interface. Rather than simply reproducing a printed Qur’an on a screen, the application has been designed around the way people use their phones every day — making it easier to read, search, study, listen and return to meaningful verses.
Designed for Dhivehi Readers
At the heart of QuranMV is accessibility. The application provides the Arabic Qur’anic text alongside the official Dhivehi translation published by the President’s Office, giving readers convenient access to both within a single application. It also incorporates Khulaasaa Tafsir, providing readers with additional Dhivehi explanation to assist in understanding the meaning and context of verses.
Users can adjust the reading experience according to their preferences. Multiple Arabic fonts are available, while font sizes for both the Arabic text and Dhivehi translation can be changed independently. Theme colours can also be customised, allowing readers to create an environment that is comfortable for anything from a few minutes of reading to longer periods of study.
More Than a Reading App
QuranMV includes a range of tools intended to support personal Qur’an study.
Readers can bookmark individual ayahs to revisit later, while notes and tags can be attached to verses to organise thoughts, reflections or areas of study. Bookmarks, notes and reading progress can also be backed up online, helping users retain their information across devices.
A built-in search function allows users to search across the Qur’an and its Dhivehi content, making it considerably easier to locate verses relating to particular words or subjects.
For those who prefer listening, QuranMV includes Qur’an recitations from renowned reciters, combining reading and listening within the same application.
Sharing has also been integrated into the experience. Any ayah can be transformed into a shareable image together with its translation, allowing verses to be shared easily through messaging applications and social media. The application also supports sharing content together with translation and tafsir.
Built in the Maldives
QuranMV is a locally developed application created by Codeworks, demonstrating how Maldivian technology can be used to develop digital products around the language and needs of the local community.
Its reach, however, extends well beyond the Maldives. QuranMV's website reports that during a recent 90-day period, more than 11,000 people across 66 countries used the application, accounting for more than 48,000 hours of usage.
These figures highlight the importance of making Dhivehi digital content available to people wherever they may be — whether living in the Maldives, studying overseas, travelling or residing abroad.
